Who is responsible
Scienshell, an independent film studio, operates this website and is responsible for the personal data it collects. When you buy a film or pass, the checkout provider shown before payment receives the order details needed to process that payment.
Account and purchase information
When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account identifier, email address, display name, and profile image URL. We use these to identify your account, display your profile, and link purchases to you. We do not receive your Google password.
You can also sign in or create an account using an email verification code. We use your email address to deliver a one-time code. Codes expire after 10 minutes; we store a keyed code hash and encrypted email address for verification, with browser binding and rate limits to prevent abuse. You do not need to set a password. A verified email matches the same account when you switch between email and Google sign-in.
For purchases, we keep the film or pass, purchase time, payment-provider references, and payment or refund status to provide access and handle billing questions. Necessary order and billing details are shared with the checkout provider shown before you pay, and with the payment partners involved in that transaction, for processing and fraud prevention. Full card details are handled through the payment provider; we do not store your full card number or card security code.
Viewing and site activity
Saved playback positions and player preferences support continuing a film. Signed-out progress is stored in your browser. For signed-in viewers, we store the film identifier, latest position, duration and update time so progress can be restored on another device. These functional records are kept separate from optional usage statistics.
Optional usage statistics are off until you accept them in Privacy settings. With permission, we record visits, time on the site, viewing activity, referral source, language, time zone and device or browser information. Consented visitor activity uses a new browser identifier; if you sign in, that activity may be linked to your account. We do not reuse the retired visitor identifier to resume tracking or automatically link its historical activity.
Some protected streams display a pseudonymous watermark derived from the film and playback identifiers to help trace unauthorized sharing. This watermark does not display your email address. Playback authorization continues to work when usage statistics are off.
Comments and support
If you post a comment or live comment, we store its text, posting time, and account information needed to display and moderate it. Your comment and displayed name are visible to other viewers. Avoid including private information. You can delete your own regular comments while signed in. Contact us to request removal of live comments or other data. If you contact us, we use the information you provide to answer your request and investigate the issue.
Why we process personal data
We use account, purchase and functional playback information to provide the service you request. Security records support service reliability and fraud prevention, and some records must be retained for legal obligations. Where legitimate interests are an available legal basis, these security and operational purposes are subject to your rights. Optional usage statistics rely on your consent. Reading this notice, signing in, scrolling or closing the privacy settings does not give that consent.
Service providers and third-party content
Our services use Google for sign-in, embedded YouTube playback, and externally hosted fonts, and Amazon Web Services for media storage and delivery. The checkout provider shown before you pay processes the payment. Payment-related processing is also described in the notices presented at checkout. Providers may receive connection information, such as your IP address and browser details, when your browser connects to their services. Earlier transaction records remain with the provider that processed those payments.
Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics and advertising measurement tags are currently disabled on this site. Opening a film that uses YouTube loads its player and connects to Google under its own terms. This does not enable Scienshell usage statistics or advertising. To stop that player’s connection, leave the page. Google’s handling of information is described in its Privacy Policy.
We may disclose information to professional advisers or authorities where necessary for legal obligations, disputes, or the protection of rights and safety. We do not sell personal data.
Cookies and browser storage
The ss_privacy cookie stores your signed choice, its version and selection time for 180 days. When statistics are accepted, it also contains a new identifier for that permitted activity. Preferences apply to this browser; another browser or cleared site storage requires a new choice. We ask again when the choice expires or its version changes.
Session cookies keep you signed in. The ss_play_id cookie binds protected playback requests for up to eight hours, renewed during protected playback; separate short-lived media cookies authorize stream delivery. These cookies do not serve as usage-statistics identifiers. The former ss_aid statistics cookie is retired and removed on return. Its value may be migrated to the separate playback cookie solely to keep an existing stream working.
Browser storage also holds player preferences, saved positions and temporary sign-in, checkout and comment-draft information. Google sign-in and YouTube may use their own cookies or similar technologies. The checkout provider and participating payment services may use technologies necessary to process and secure payments. Their notices explain their processing. Google-hosted fonts receive connection information when loaded.
Use Privacy settings to accept or reject optional statistics at any time. Rejecting them does not prevent sign-in, purchases or film playback. Withdrawing consent stops new optional statistics and removes the current statistics identifier; it does not itself delete previously stored server records. We also attempt to remove legacy Google measurement cookies that this site can control. Cookie lifetimes do not determine how long server records are retained. You can manage other cookies in your browser, but blocking essential storage may affect site functions.
Where information is processed
Sign-in, streaming, and payment services may involve providers in more than one country. Contact us for information about the providers relevant to your account.
Retention and security
Account and purchase records support ongoing film access, billing enquiries, and legal recordkeeping. Viewing records support usage analysis and service operation; comments remain stored for display and moderation unless removed. These records are not currently governed by a single automatic deletion schedule. The period needed depends on the record’s purpose, outstanding requests or disputes, and applicable legal obligations.
You can request deletion of your account, viewing activity, or comments by emailing contact@scienshell.com. Account deletion is handled through support; there is currently no self-service account-deletion control. We may need to retain limited transaction information for legal obligations or disputes, and deleting account records can affect our ability to provide purchased access. Contact us before deleting an account if you want to understand that effect. We use measures including HTTPS and access controls to protect information.
Your choices and rights
Depending on the law that applies, you may request access, correction, deletion, a copy of your data, restriction of processing, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw that consent. Email contact@scienshell.com with your request. We may ask for information necessary to verify your identity; do not send passwords or full payment card details.
You may also complain to the relevant data protection authority. For data handled independently by a payment provider or Google, consult that provider’s applicable notice or contact us for help identifying the provider involved.
