Scienshell is an independent film studio creating cinematic science fiction in documentary form. We imagine what civilizations beyond Earth might build, how their worlds could work, and what it might take to make a home within them.
A civilization takes shape
In the futures we imagine, sunlight becomes an energy network. Routes between planets carry the materials of new settlements. Planetary environments become engineering questions, while unfamiliar skies invite new ways of living.
Our films follow the connections between these ideas. An individual structure belongs to a larger system; a new technology can change what a civilization is able to build next. Through these connections, distant worlds begin to feel like places with an inner life.
From an idea to a world
Technical concepts, narration, and visual development help us give these imagined places form. We move between the scale of a civilization and the details that might sustain it: energy, transport, resources, and habitats.
Scientific ideas provide a starting point. Speculative engineering and fictional settings allow us to explore what could follow. Our films present imagined futures, with the perspective and atmosphere of a documentary.

From Mercury’s solar industry to routes between planets, the transformation of Mars, and habitats in unfamiliar skies, Out of the Cradle imagines the systems that could support a civilization beyond Earth. Each film opens another part of that world—and another question about how it might work.
Cosmic Geographic
Explore imagined civilizations, extraordinary megastructures, and cosmic disasters—and how unfamiliar environments could shape the ways civilizations build and survive.
Begin with a question
How could energy reach a settlement on another world? What would it take to move materials between planets? How might people build a home in the clouds of a distant world?

Awards & recognition
The following awards recognise earlier work by Scienshell Studio and are part of our studio history.
Cosmic Virtuoso by Scienshell Studio won Best Web Series at the 2023 New York Sci-Fi Film Festival.
The film also received the Gold Award for Best Web Series/TV Pilot at Independent Shorts Awards in November 2022, Best Sound Mixing at IndieX Film Fest in November 2022, and Best Sci-Fi Film at Oniros Film Awards in October 2022.
